The Skagway News won four awards at the annual Alaska Press Club banquet in Anchorage for stories that appeared in 2014:
• First place Sports Columnist for all media again went to Andrew Cremata for his Fish This! column. Cremata has “owned” this category for much of the past decade.
• Second place Breaking News Story to the News staff of Katie Emmets, Aimee O’Connor and Jeff Brady for coverage of the WP&YR train derailment at the summit last July.  It was a rare entry and win for the twice monthly News in this category, as the staff scrambled to cover the event on its deadline day.
• Second place Best Reporting on Science to Katie Emmets for her “informative, well structured and well written” September story about the study of area bats and their migration patterns.
• Third place Best Short Feature to Elise Giordano for her delightful November story, “Arizona pit bull finds solace with Skagway family.”
