Skagway School teacher Erik Wortman was awarded the contract for cross-country coach on July 9.

Superintendent Josh Coughran said Wortman is an avid runner and has demonstrated that he can develop positive relationships with students.

Runners will be coached by Abby Myers toward the beginning of the season, until Wortman returns from a summer fishing trip.

“I think he’ll be a good coach,” School Board President John Hischer said. “He seems to have a good relationship with the kids.”
