Evans runs her team into Eagle Song, a checkpoint 55 miles from the start. The stop is not accessible by car, so mom Heather Rodig and The Skagway News chartered a plane to surprise Evans. She stopped just long enough to check in with the vet, get a kiss on the shoulder from her mom, and she was off once again. Evans later told us she cried as she got back onto the trail, overcome with emotion.
