In an effort to protect the safety of its children, the Skagway Child Care Council requested funding from the municipality for a new fence around its municipally owned Little Dippers building at 23rd Avenue and Main Street.

According to SCCC, the cost of the new six to seven foot cedar fence should cost between $23,000 and $29,660 and would ideally be installed before May 2. But the council said they are not picky with their design and are open to other options.

The assembly agreed to allot $25,000 toward the project, which they said might also cover the cost of installation. Assemblyman Steve Burnham Jr. recommended they ask contractors if they would be willing to volunteer their time.
