• Art Fest, April 7-10, will be held at the Skagway School and various locations around town. Approximately 100 students from SE Alaska high schools will be arriving in Skagway to immerse themselves in 4 days of art classes. If space is available after student registration, we will offer available slots to any interested community members for $50 per class. Call Donna at 983-3222 to get your name on a list for potential classes if space allows.
• Art Show at Kirmse’s on Broadway, Sunday, April 10th, 7:00 p.m. View featured works by all students, the awards program and an auction of selected instructor artwork. Light refreshments will be available.
• Spring Show of Winter Work, Friday April 15th, 5:00 to 7:00pm, at the AB Hall Submission forms are due now and up to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8th. This weekend art show is free and not to be missed! See what fellow Skagwegians have been creating this winter! All community members young and old are welcome to show off finished art work and works in progress. Details, due dates for artwork and submission forms are available at AB Hall, Skagway Public Library and Skagway Recreation Center. Start getting your artwork ready now! Art work will be due at noon on Wednesday, April 13th.
• 30th Annual International Folk Festival, Friday, April 15th, 7:00 p.m. until the finale! Eagles Stage, all welcome, free admission with donations gladly accepted! Come out for a fun filled evening of live music performed by folks from Yukon, Canada, Juneau, Skagway and other places yet unknown! Fifteen minute sets are available for groups and performers of all ages. Call Donna at (907)983-3222 or email Skagwayartscouncil@gmail.com if you would like to participate.
Keep in mind that Skagway Arts Council memberships are available at all events and online. Membership is good for one year and you receive $2 off each event you attend all year long, as well as helping a great organization bring quality events to Skagway. Memberships are $10 for individuals and we offer membership discounts for seniors, students and families.
Scholarships are also available for a wide variety of activities. Perhaps you would like to participate in the upcoming North Words Writers Symposium, take an art class, need help buying an instrument or repairing an old one, updating equipment in your studio or buying more supplies…we have funds available to help!
