Alberta (Bert) Kasler passed away March 8, 2016, at the age of 80. She had been splitting her time living with family in Juneau and North Pole, Alaska. Per our mother’s request, her four children and their spouses will gather at a later date to take her and our father’s remains on a cross-country adventure/ homecoming. There will be no formal funeral services.
Bert was born in Ottoville, Ohio in 1935, third of her farmer parents six children. She learned to be her dad’s right-hand helper in the fields. Bert answered a “wrong-number” phone call in 1958, and ended up marrying the caller- a railroader named Joe Kasler. Joe and Bert immediately launched into having four children – Stan, Laurinda, Jeff, and Greg. Bert and Joe took the family to Skagway, AK in 1971, where she worked numerous jobs – especially loving being the front desk manager for the Klondike Hotel. Bert always offered herself to service for everyone else. She adored her Joe.
Joe and Bert moved to Richland, Washington in 1983, and remained there until Joe’s passing in 2011. Over the last five years, Bert enjoyed spending time with her children and their extended families as she returned to Alaska. Alberta is survived by her four children, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mom will be missed by all, but we know she is delighted to be with husband Joe again. Love you, Mom.
