Evangeline Taylor, 90, our beloved mother passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2016, at the home of her daughter Dalyce McFarland, in Auburn, Washington. Van was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Taylor who died in February of 1998.
Van was a 35 year cancer survivor. She was born on March 5, 1926 in Harmon, West Virginia to Robert and May Harper, she was the youngest with seven sisters and two brothers. Van attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buchannan, West Virginia. She met her future husband Marvin near the end of WWII and was married in the Skagway Presbyterian Church on June 11, 1947. Van is survived by all five or her children, Paul (Denise), Ralph (Sonya), Patricia, Dalyce (Loren) and Delores (Royce). She had 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. All six of her great grandchildren reside in Skagway and Wasilla, Alaska.
Van loved to cook and host large family dinners especially during winter and holidays, usually with a TV football game in the background. She enjoyed camping in the Yukon especially Portage, Carcross and Tagish.
Always a care giver with a very generous heart she will be greatly missed by all family members. A memorial service is scheduled for summer 2017 in Skagway.
