The assembly voted unanimously to approve a resolution requesting additional Commercial Passenger Vessel excise tax funding totaling nearly $11 million for port infrastructure improvement projects.

The resolution, which will be submitted to the legislature for possible funding in the next fiscal year, requests $350,000 for sidewalk improvements in Broadway, $3 million for the public safety facility, $4 million for a solid waste/recycling facility, and $3.6 million for dredging the north basin of, and adding float extensions to the Skagway Small Boat Harbor.

CPV tax is collected from each cruise ship passenger who visits Alaskan waters and can be used by the municipality for capital improvement projects providing they improve port infrastructure in a way that is generally beneficial to visiting cruisers.
