Harvey Van Patten Twig Furniture Workshop
Back by popular demand, this class always fills up, so registration is strongly suggested. Make a chair, bench, table or a creation of your own choosing in this two-day workshop. The first day will focus on choosing your project and starting the base structure. From there, you can finish on your own or come back the second day for more tips on how to put finishing touches on your piece. The workshop is Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Skagway Traditional Council. Cost is $85; all materials are provided but best to bring your own hammer, pruning clippers and small saw. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
CBGBs meet the Grand Ole Opry. Hailing form New York, this six-man, one-woman band blends bluegrass, country, rockabilly and a sucker punch of punk for a rubber-meets-the-road roots sound. Many of their songs tow a thin line between serious and satire, but don’t let irreverence fool you. These accomplished musicians create artistic arrangements that feature harmonies worthy of Gram and Emmylou, and a virtuosic chicken-pickin’ guitar that belies their geographic origin. The concert is Wednesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. at Happy Endings. Admission is $10, $8 for SAC members.
Whitehorse Chamber Choir and the Persephones
This concert is on Saturday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, and features a variety of pieces sure to please the whole family. Free admission, with a donation bucket to benefit a local charity.
