The Skagway Recreation Center would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the many people and businesses that made Skagway Summer Camp 2017 yet another great year of fun, adventure and learning.

We could not have done it without the generosity of the community and deeply admire your enthusiasm in offering our group a wide variety of exciting opportunities away from school. In no particular order, thank you Stuart Brown at SMART Bus and his drivers for all the free rides around town.

Thank you White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad for the complimentary train tickets to be able to hike Denver Glacier with Packer Expeditions. A special thank-you to our guide Andy from Packer Expedition for going above and beyond with entertaining us and making the hike such a grand adventure. Thank you Elks Lodge #431, Brittney Cremata and Abby Jo Kramer for the $2,000 grant that paid for our transportation to and from Haines to go swimming each week. Thank you Haines Skagway Fast Ferry, Stephanie Hawney and the awesome people onboard the boats for your discounted rate and excellent service to and from Haines. Thank you Steven “Beerdsly” Auch and our amazing guides at Alaska Mountain/Chilkat Guides for the hike and float excursion and rock climbing adventure. And thank you Erin Redington and the just as amazing Alaska Excursions guides for the zip lining tour in Dyea. Thank you Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park and NPS Rangers Jason and Esmerelda for our weekly adventures and all the activities you developed to entertain and educate our group.

Thank you Rae Ann Galasso and Haines Swimming Pool for accommodating our weekly trips and a special thanks to Mountain Market for your great service and incredible patience. Thank you Jewell Garden and our glass blowers Michelle and Sam for the great show and thank you Skagway Traditional Council for teaching us about ocean debris and cleanup.

And thank you Klondike Goldfields for the dog sledding, puppy visit, 40-below experience, gold panning and incredible lunch! We would also like to thank British Soccer Camp and the Girl Scouts of America for providing week-long camps through the Rec Center this year that gave our kids even more opportunities for having fun this summer.

And finally, a very special (and second) thank you to Alaska Mountain/Chilkat Guides for leading a highly-successful Sea Kayaking course with our kayaking equipment to train people on safety and rescues on the water. This course (or proof of something similar) is a necessary prerequisite for renting our kayaks and was provided by Alaska Mountain Guides free of charge.

The money collected from this event has been placed in our Skagway Summer Camp Fund and will allow us to continue our swimming excursions to Haines and enable us to do many other fun things that come up! There are so many people in this community that have contributed in one way or another to our summer programming and we truly appreciate your help.
