Brad Ryan has accepted the position of Skagway borough manager and will start the job Sept. 1.

The borough assembly on Aug. 1 approved a two-year contract for Ryan, the public facilities director in Haines. He will start at a salary of $120,000 a year during his 90-day evaluation period, with a raise to $125,000 after that. The municipality will provide housing.

Ryan will take over from Stan Selmer, who has been serving as interim borough manager since June 7. The borough has been without a permanent manager since July 2018. Selmer is the second interim appointment, in addition to borough staff filling in.

A borough manager search committee recommended Ryan to the full assembly, which voted unanimously July 18 to offer him the position. Mayor Andrew Cremata and Assembly Finance Committee Chair Steve Burnham prepared the job offer accepted by Ryan and the assembly.
