Skagway Arts Council needs you!
With the births of Dottie’s granddaughter, Chanel, Jennifer’s son, Wesley, Carol off to join the Peace Corps, and Donna sitting around all day in her pajamas, the Skagway Arts Council is in need of volunteers. When September sets in, our members will also be voting in a couple of new board members!
The job descriptions are not set in stone, and we can tweak them to suit you!
THE LIGHTER SIDE:  We always need event cashiers and membership help at the door.  Frequently, help is also needed setting up, folding programs, picking up after and putting chairs away, or maybe shuttling famous performers to their lodgings after the show is over.  Sometimes we just need someone to bake some cookies!
THE QUIET SIDE:  If you like to be a bit more behind the scenes, we have an opening for a person with good organizational skills who would like to attend meetings, be a part of our planning process, write up agendas, meeting minutes and help with occasional letters, possible grants for funding and other secretarial duties.  Meetings are about once a month, and other items mentioned above can fit into your own schedule.
ARTSY AND TECH HELP:  Posters get made for every event and put up around town, it is fun and good exercise!  Our website always needs updates for each event and other sprucing up too!
MOVERS AND SHAKERS:  For those of you that really want to jump in and make some noise, highly motivated, energetic people are needed as event organizers!  This is what we board members call “DRIVING THE BUS”!  This entails doing it all, sharing an event or at least helping in a myriad of ways.  From start to finish, this involves negotiating a contract, being the artist’s contact person, figuring out the logistics of getting the performers to town, finding lodging, food, pickup and rides about town, scheduling possible tour perks, outreach education, and the actual event. Deciding on the venue, the cost of tickets, the opening act and possibly even jumping up on stage to MC could all be a part of your new fulfilling life supporting the arts in Skagway! These components are all a part of pulling off an event that will make your heart swell with pride when you see all the happy faces in the audience!
Don’t be shy, don’t be scared, we won’t make you do it all alone either.  Our board of directors has worked together closely, like a well-tuned instrument for many years now and we do not let each other down!  We are with each other every step of the way!
