Borough Assembly members passed a resolution committing $10 million in matching funds for the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant, or TIGER, to help pay for a floating dock during a special assembly meeting on May 28.
The assembly suggested the use of commercial vessel passenger excise tax dollars be added to the budget on May 21, adding that they would be used only if the TIGER grant is approved.
But Assemblyman Gary Hanson voted against it, saying he didn’t want to commit city money to the dock.
Hanson later wrote up the resolution to better protect the municipality, by matching the funds only if the grant is awarded. It passed unanimously.
