Skagway Development Corporation’s Executive Director Juliene Miles successfully submitted the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant, or TIGER, on June 4.
The grant requested $10 million toward a floating dock and intermodal pedestrian access interface at the Ore Dock.
Though the municipality has applied for the grant in previous years and failed, Port Commission members are optimistic about the current application.
Miles received 12 letters in support of the project, from the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, State Senator Dennis Egan and Representative Sam Kito III, TEMSCO Helicopters, Inc., White Pass & Yukon Route railroad and more.
“I think this is an excellent job. This is darn good work,” Commissioner Steve Hites said.
