The Skagway team took first-place honors in the readers’ theatre category and two second-place wins in miming and informative speaking in drama, debate and forensics competition among Southeast schools, held in Skagway Nov. 15-16.

In the readers’ theatre piece, the team of Sadie Murphy, Loren Garduque, Callia Fielding, Maisha Rahman and Tessa Murphy took first place. The high school teams from Mt. Edgecumbe, Ketchikan and Sitka placed second through fourth in the event.

The competition drew teams from seven Southeast schools.

Rahman took second place in informative speaking, with Fielding taking fourth. In the miming competition, Skagway’s Fielding and Murphy took second place, losing to the team from Juneau’s Thunder Mountain High School.

In the category of duo interpretation of literature, Murphy and Garduque placed third. Fielding placed fourth in informative speaking.

Skagway’s next drama, debate and forensics matchup will be Dec. 13-14 in Juneau, with the state championship competition set for Feb. 13-15 in Juneau.
