Skagway High School graduates its seniors at May 20 ceremony

Skagway High School added to its alumni rolls on May 20 when it ushered the Class of 2026 into the history books.
A total of 12 seniors - seven boys and five girls - received their diplomas during a special graduation ceremony in the Skagway gymnasium, including 2026 valedictorian Lina Hischer and salutatorian Leonardo Lucchetti. The graduates were presented their diplomas by Skagway Superintendent Josh Cochran.
Hischer, who is planning to attend the University of Chicago, urged her classmates to keep striving for excellence in the future during her commencement speech.
The SHS Class of 2026 features a varied assortment of plans for their future. Hischer and Lennon Jennings will both be attending college classes in the fall, as will Royce Borst. Jennings is planning to attend the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Borst will be attending Centralia College in Centralia, Washington, to play basketball. For others, such as Zeke Coughran, graduation means a chance to pursue a career in the film industry. He plans to enroll at Weber State in Ogden, Utah, to become a cinematographer and sound designer.
Colton Gransbury said he will be entering the U.S. Air Force. He will be heading to basic training in August.
Following the speeches, Superintendent Josh Cochran approved the delivery of diplomas to study Business Administration.
Receiving their diplomas were: Jennings, Borst, Ethan Salazar, Hischer, Lucchetti, Coughran, Brenden Moncibaiz, Lydia Spence, Camden Lawson, Kaleb Cochran and Colton Gransbury.
In addition to seeing the seniors graduate, locals were also able to take in the school’s eighth-grade graduation, marking the start of the next wave of SHS students.
