The assembly is waiting to find out if Governor Bill Walker will return Skagway’s portion of the Commercial Passenger Vessel excise tax revenues to the municipality before moving ahead with pursuing an updated economic impact study.
The municipality receives $5 per cruise ship visitor for a total of almost $4 million a year, and the assembly is considering using part of those funds for the study.
“I think it would be a good idea to update this study,” Mayor Mark Schafer said. “It’s been a while since we did it.”
But as of right now, no funds have been allocated in the budget to conduct the study for this fiscal year.
