Cory Thole was appointed to fill Chezare Leipold’s vacant Skagway City School Board seat in a special meeting on Oct. 20. He was the only applicant to submit a letter of interest.
“I think Cory will be a great addition to the board,” said Superintendent Josh Coughran.
Thole is currently the buildings and utilities supervisor of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and has two children who attend Skagway School. He has been a member of the Dahl Memorial Clinic Board for almost 20 years. He taught middle and high school science for three years.
Thole said “he’s very proud of the school that we have” and is looking forward to his term.
Leipold reluctantly resigned from the school board after plans to relocate for new employment.
“It’s a gratifying position that takes time and patience. Knowing that you’re working hand in hand with teachers, administration, staff and a superintendent that wholeheartedly love this amazing facility makes it all worthwhile,” Leipold said.
Thole’s term will expire in October 2021.
