Daniel Robert Law
Aug. 10, 1948 – Feb. 7 2022
Daniel Robert Law, 73, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on Feb. 7, 2022, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by supportive friends and their much loved dog, Pochi.
Born to Richard and Lois Law in Salida, Colorado on Aug. 10, 1948, he joined older siblings Dick, Dave and Linda Law. After graduating from high school in Puyallup, Washington in 1966, Dan worked in the sawmills of Oregon and Washington, but eventually followed his brothers to work in Skagway. He worked as both a brakeman and conductor on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad off and on from the mid 70s until 2004. During this time, he had two daughters, Amber and Ashley.
Dan left Skagway, briefly moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He continued to work for White Pass in Skagway during the summer tourist seasons, then as an engineer. Skagway was where he felt at home, so he eventually moved back and built his home on the hill overlooking town, a decades long dream. Dan served as an exalted ruler and longtime member of the local Elks Lodge, and was a member of the local Eagles Aeire as well.
Dan met his wife Cindie (neé Tousey) during the summer of 2001, who had moved to Skagway to work as a tour guide on the White Pass. By the end of the tourist season they were married, and remained so until his passing. Cindie brought two stepdaughters into their marriage, Lucie Shannon and Lorelei Walker.
They moved to Las Vegas in 2005 when Dan retired from the railroad, where they remained until his death. He spent his retirement quietly, reading, cooking and berating the contestants on Jeopardy. His favorite song was “In Spite of Ourselves” by John Prine.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lois Law, and his siblings, Dick, Dave and Linda Law and longtime best friend, Henry “Skeeter” Mayer.
Dan is survived by his wife, Cindie Law, daughters Amber Niebuhr and Ashley Apetz, step-daughters Lorelei Walker and Lucie Shannon, grandchildren Keagan, Braydan and Lily Niebuhr, Katie, Claire and Axel Apetz and Adeline Walker, nieces and nephews Kimberly Lawson, Kelly Creveling, Jennifer and Richard Law and Jim Hall.
A private cremation service will be held.
