On Wednesday, August 16th, Secretary Buttigieg will join U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski where they will begin the day by hearing from local operators of Alaska Seaplanes in Haines, AK. They will then tour the Haines community and stop at the Lutak Dock, the site of a $20 million investment from the recent Infrastructure Laws strengthening infrastructure critical to getting supplies in and out of the community. After the tour, Secretary Buttigieg and Senator Murkowski will meet with community and Tribal leaders who were instrumental in securing the federal funding.
The secretary and senator will then visit with Alaska Marine Highway System employees while taking a ferry to Skagway, AK. In Skagway, they will tour ferry infrastructure and meet with community and Tribal leaders. They will then board a seaplane to Juneau to discuss critical infrastructure needs at the Juneau airport.
