NaNoWriMo

(National Novel Writing Month)

November may be coming to a close, but the Skagway folks participating in the annual NaNoWriMo are still typing.

The NaNoWriMo website says, “National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on Nov. 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.

Contact the library at 907-983-BOOK (2665) and ask for Grace if you are interested in finishing off the thirty days of writing, it may not be too late. Warm up those fingers and see what you can  do with the creative project you have been thinking about.

The Skagway Library

Book Club

The Book Club meets monthly during the off-season from September through April. It is free for everyone with no registration required. Just read the book.

The library provides books from a collection of borrowed and donated materials. The club met in September to select the lineup for the season.

Everyone is welcome whether you have finished the book or not. “We’ve had people who haven’t actually read the book. They didn’t finish it, or they didn’t read the book at all. They just were interested in hearing what was going on.” Library Director Rachel Dewan said.

The Book Club meets on the third Sunday of the month at 3 p.m. Dates are subject to change.

Winter Reading challenge – Book Bingo

Just inside the library foyer is a large Bingo card filled with book titles. The challenge is to read “a Bingo” of books. If a reader completes a line, they are invited to chose a prize from the prize cart. If a person fills the entire card they will be entered in a pool to win the grand prize. All of the books are available at the library. Book Bingo goes from Nov.1 to Feb. 29 this season.

Reading Magic Photos

Bring your family, yourself or friends to have your picture taken by the Christmas tree.  Choose your book and with a little library magic, a magic glow will shine from the book onto the reader for a special holidat effect.
