Sept. 5

•911 was pocket dialed three times.

•Lost and found reports were taken for a lost birth certificate and a found shopping bag with three large diamond rings inside.

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency on the train at Canadian customs and transported the patient to Whitehorse.

Sept. 6

•A caller reported there was a dead animal in the middle of the highway. DOT was advised and discovered a deceased porcupine – which they moved. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a found drone discovered crashed in the rockslide area and a lost phone.

•Officers assisted the Alaska State Troopers in conducting a death investigation of a passenger onboard a cruise ship.

911 was pocket dialed three times. 

•Dispatch received a report that a commercial tour bus with twenty-five passengers had crashed near the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Skagway Fire Department coordinated with crews from the Yukon to respond. The US and Canadian border stations were temporarily closed to through traffic during the response. Patients were transferred via ambulance south to Skagway and north to Whitehorse. It was reported the injuries were mostly minor with no fatalities. 

EMS personnel assisted with a patient transfer from Skagway to the Fraser, BC border station for a patient handoff to Yukon EMS. 

Sept. 7

•Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider four times. 

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency. 

•Police personnel assisted a ship with an investigation regarding the death of a crew member.

•Police personnel assisted ship security in collecting and disposing a few rounds of confiscated ammunition.  

•911 was pocket dialed once. 

Sept. 8

•911 was pocket dialed three times. 

•An officer responded to speak with White Pass personnel about a train derailment. 

•Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider twice. 

•A caller reported there was a man sitting by the water near Yakutania Trail bridge upset and screaming. Officers responded but the man could not be located. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a found iPhone.

At 7:45 p.m. a caller reported they spotted the single brown bear cub near the White Pass RV Park. An officer responded but was unable to locate the bear.

Sept. 9

•911 was pocket dialed six times. 

•At 8 a.m. an individual reported the single brown bear cub was spotted near Rocky Road off the Dyea Road. 

•Police personnel assisted with a vehicle lockout. 

•At 4:04 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear cub was by the ball fields in Seven Pastures. An officer responded and spotted the bear, but it ran into the woods. The officer warned individuals on the disc golf course that the bear was in the area.

•An SOS emergency phone service reported a car crash on the Klondike Highway. Coordinates were given and the location showed near the Moore Bridge. Police and EMS responded but were unable to locate the crash. Upon further investigation, it was discovered the coordinates were a little off and first responders were finally able to locate the crash. The car had flipped and was hidden by trees and was not visible from the road. EMS personnel transported the driver to the clinic. 

•At 11 p.m. a caller reported there was a group of people in the streets very loudly playing football. An officer responded and asked them to quiet down.

Sept. 10

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency. 

•Fire Department personnel responded to a fire alarm and activated sprinkler. It was found to be caused by a pressure malfunction. 

•EMS personnel transported patients for three separate medevacs. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a blue Android phone in a black case with dinosaur and Skagway Spirits stickers on it.

•A caller reported someone from the ship had walked out of their store carrying merchandise they did not pay for. Officers responded and took store footage of the individual to the ships security to try and identify them. 

•A caller reported they left a black crossbody purse that contained valuable jewelry on a tour. They further reported they spoke to an employee with the tour company who assured them they found the bag and had given it to a taxi driver to deliver to “the terminal.” Caller did not know what that meant and now could not track down their bag. They were worried someone had stolen it. Dispatch advised they would pass along the information to an officer. 

•EMS personnel responded to two separate medical emergencies. 

•White Pass dispatch reported the train had just narrowly missed crashing into a ship shuttle bus that drove in front of the train as it entered the Congress Way train crossing. They further reported the ship shuttle bus had also nearly hit their crossing-guard employee who had been standing in the middle of the road to stop traffic. An officer responded to start an investigation.

•Fire Department personnel responded to the report of smoke filling up the Garden City Laundromat. A load of kitchen towels in a dryer was on fire. Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire. 

•A caller reported seeing a light flicker above Kirmse’s Clock and were worried it could be a hiker in trouble. An officer responded but was unable to locate any flickering lights. 

•A local club reported there was an individual inside who was not allowed, but refused to leave and was causing a scene. The bartender then reported that when the individual realized the police were on the phone, they immediately took off at a full sprint down the street.

Sept. 11

•911 was pocket dialed three times.

•EMS personnel transported patients for four separate medevacs. 

•Dispatch assisted on contacting the on-duty provider. 

•A caller reported witnessing a specific tour guide continually taking their tour groups down to Nakhu Bay. An officer spoke to the company and discovered the guide was unaware of municipal code prohibiting the area from commercial tourism and reported it would not happen again.

•A caller reported there was a tourist walking on the airport runway. An officer responded and discovered the tourist did not speak English, but the officer was able to communicate the area was off limits. 

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency. 

Sept. 12

•At 1:45 a.m. an individual called to report they were awakened by noise from a nearby employee housing unit. They reported it was a recurring problem so dispatch advised the company’s owner of the complaint. 

•A security company called to report two separate burglar alarms in downtown buildings. An officer responded and both alarms the alarms were discovered to be accidently triggered and false. 

•EMS personnel responded to two separate medical emergencies. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a found credit card and a Kodak Camera lost in late August. The owner of the camera just really hoped to get back the memory card. 

•At 9:14 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear cub was just spotted running near Broadway and 12th. An officer was advised.

Sept. 13

•At 3:50 a.m. a caller reported the single brown bear was currently getting into trash on 20th Avenue. 

•Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider. 

Upon daylight, an officer reported the bear had gotten into trash around 18th and Main overnight. 

•Port security reported being harassed by two individuals from a cruise ship. An officer responded and spoke with both parties. 

•EMS personnel transported a patient for a medevac. 

Lost and found reports were taken for a lost Texas ID and a found black Google phone.

•911 was pocket dialed once. 

•At 9:30 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear was spotted around 22nd and Main. An officer responded and found the bear had gotten into trash down the alley, but the bear was now gone.

Sept. 14

•At 7:45 a.m. a caller reported the bear had gotten into trash in the alley off 16th Avenue sometime the previous night.

•At 10:30 a.m. a report was received that the single brown bear was on the Yakutania Point Trail near the bridge. An officer responded but was unable to locate the bear.

•Lost and found reports were taken for a lost 3×3 brown leather wallet and a found Pennsylvania ID. 

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency. 

•Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider. 

•A caller reported their hotel guests were complaining about noise from a nearby house. As it was not yet 10 p.m., dispatch advised the caller to call back if it continued after quiet hours. At 11 p.m. the caller reported the guests were still complaining. An officer responded but the only noise in the area was coming from a local bar down the block. 

Sept. 15

•At 1:00 a.m. a caller near 18th and State reported the single brown bear was currently breaking into the back porch of their house which contained the garbage they kept inside until the morning of garbage day per municipal code. An officer responded.

•At 1:10 a.m. a different caller reported they were walking home and had just crossed paths with the bear running at 15th and State. They reported the bear ran towards the railroad tracks. 

•At 1:45 am an officer searching for the bear reported discovering the bear had gotten into trash near 16th and State. 

Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider three times.

•Lost and found reports were taken for a lost broken silver bracelet that was in a Ziploc.

Sept. 16

•At 7:00 a.m. an officer reported finding the bear had gotten into employee housing trash in the alleys near 20th and Main and 22nd and Alaska.

•911 was pocket dialed five times. 

•A caller reported there was a brown dog running loose near the Rec Center. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a lost iPhone in a sparkly copper/lilac case that was lost in late August, a found makeshift money clip with cash and credit cards secured by a hair tie and a found single credit card.

•Fire Department personnel responded to a fire alarm. It was found to be a false alarm set off by a culinary mishap.

•An out-of-town caller requested a welfare check for a friend. They reported the friend had just abruptly dropped their phone call and did not answer when they tried to call back. Twenty minutes later the friend then texted “I’m f-ed! I’m f-ed!” and now was not responding again. Shortly after, they called back and to cancel the welfare check as their friend finally responded and was fine.

At 10:25 p.m. a report was received that the single brown bear was spotted at 8th and Broadway.

•At 10:30 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear was in an alley near 13th and Broadway. 

•Officers responded to the bear reports in an attempt to locate and potentially dispatch the problem brown bear cub. At 10:45 p.m. officers located the bear in an alley near 17th and State, but it ran. 

Sept. 17

•At 12:15 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear was outside their house near 20th and Alaska. 

•A passenger on board a cruise ship called 911 to report they were currently stuck in the ship’s elevator. Ship security was advised. 

•Lost and found reports were taken for a lost woven pouch wallet, a found Ontario ID with credit cards, a pair of wire rimmed bifocal prescription glasses with sunglasses lost the previous week and a lost set of multiple keys with a Honda key fob and Rec Center clip.

•911 was pocket dialed three times.  

•At 11:45 p.m. a caller reported the single brown bear had gotten into a neighbor’s trash on the hill along the Dyea Road and the bear was now triggering the neighbor’s car alarm. An officer was advised. 

Sept. 18

•Fire Department personnel responded to a downtown fire alarm. It was found to be false and caused by a culinary mishap. 

•EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency. 

•Dispatch assisted in contacting the on-duty provider. 

•At midnight a caller reported someone outside their house pounding on their windows. An officer responded and found an intoxicated individual attempting to get the homeowner’s attention, reporting to the officer that the homeowner had messaged them and asked them to come over. The officer gave the individual a courtesy ride back to the downtown area where they were staying.
